Carbon Neutrality

Going Green on Safari

Helping Our Guests Achieve Carbon Neutrality

We are delighted to be working with our trusted partners at Carbon Green Africa to offer our guests the opportunity to offset their travel carbon footprints. If you share our goal of pursuing carbon neutrality, we offer a quick and effective way of purchasing internationally recognized carbon credits. These may be purchased directly through Sikeleli in ‘packets’ of 6 credits each. One packet costs $60 USD, the amount understood to offset the carbon footprint of each group of clients on safari.

Purchase Your Carbon Credit Packet

How do carbon credits work?

Each purchase of one carbon credit ‘packet’ per group of guests offsets the equivalent of 6 tonnes of carbon from your travel emissions, provided you are travelling on the same flights together. This is the average amount of carbon that is generated by a safari vacation, including international flights to and from Africa. All funds from the sale of these credits go to the REDD Trust, a UN-endorsed project that funds an extensive program of conservation and environmental restoration projects. These include the Kariba REDD Project in northern Zimbabwe: a program promoting anti-poaching, animal conservation, environmentally friendly agricultural methods, beekeeping, fuelwood plantations and fire management for the improved livelihoods of local people. In addition, a large proportion of the project’s generated ‘carbon income’ is used to invest in regional activities that promote environmental sustainability. For more information on the Kariba REDD Project, you can check out their website for more details.
