Ele-Collection and Sikeleli Travel working together to protect Africa’s Elephants
Sikeleli Travel is proud to announce a partnership with Ele-Collection to tackle one of the most pressing environmental crises in Africa: plastic pollution threatening wildlife. Together, we are taking a stand to safeguard all wildlife as well as empower women.
What are we doing?
We are proud to partner with Ele-Collection, which is dedicated to removing and upcycling plastic while empowering women. Through our partnership, Sikeleli supports Ele-Collection’s sustainable and scalable recycling solutions that aim to remove all plastic from Victoria Falls and Zimbabwe. Our mission goes beyond environmental cleanup; we’re committed to empowering women in the local community. Ele-Collection collaborates with Zion City, a women’s empowerment group that supports vulnerable women and girls, providing them with education, protection, and opportunities to work. After graduating from Zion City, these young women often face limited work options. With Ele-Collection, they gain a safe, stable income and meaningful work in plastic recycling. For every $500 raised, we can empower three women through employment and remove three tonnes of plastic from Victoria Falls’ streets and bush.
What’s the situation?
Plastic Pollution Each month, approximately 230 tons of plastic waste flood Victoria Falls and its surroundings, a staggering weight equivalent to 33 elephants. When ingested by elephants, for example, this plastic causes severe ulcers, excruciating pain, and eventually leads to plasticosis, a fatal condition. This situation also heightens human-wildlife conflict, as elephants, in their suffering, may turn aggressive in search of relief.

Not only because Victoria Falls is a natural wonder but also because it’s where I grew up. Surrounded by these animals, it means so much to me and to us at Sikeleli. Together with Ele-Collection, we are working to eliminate plastic pollution in this beloved region, ensuring a safer, cleaner future for these icons of the African wilderness.
