Visiting Mother Teresa’s Home and Tomb, and taking a panoramic tour of Kolkata’s well-preserved British colonial buildings, including the iconic Writer’s Building and General Post Office, offered glimpses into the city’s historical significance. The spiritual aura of St. John’s Church, the oldest Anglican Church in the city, added a profound sense of reverence to my journey.
As I continued my voyage, sailing through India’s breathtaking landscapes, I discovered remnants of European settlements from the 17th to 19th centuries. In Bandel, we witnessed the stunning Bengal terra cotta art showcased in the 18th-century temples of Baranagar. In Murshidabad, the Hazarduari Palace and Imambara exuded grand colonial heritage. A spiritual highlight was our visit to Mayapur, the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, where we immersed ourselves in the vibrant culture, met Krishna followers, and strolled through the pilgrim’s bazaar. In Chandernagore, a former French colony, we admired the French colonial buildings, explored the Dupleix Museum, and visited the beautiful Sacred Heart Church.
Delhi: A thrilling adventure through history, architecture, and culinary delights!
Delhi was an absolute thrill ride! We dove headfirst into the city’s historical wonders, and, were we blown away! Let me give you the lowdown on all the jaw-dropping moments.
Our first stop was the mind-blowing Qutub Minar. Picture this: a towering structure that dates back to 1199, reaching a mind-boggling height of 72.5 meters! It stood there, majestically, either as a victory tower or a minaret for a nearby mosque. Talk about making a statement! We couldn’t help but gape at its grandeur and imagine the stories hidden within its ancient walls.
And hold onto your hat because Humayun’s Tomb was next on our list, and wow, did it take our breath away! This architectural gem, built over eight long years, was a sight straight out of a fairy tale. Can you believe it was the inspiration behind the world-famous Taj Mahal? The combination of pristine white marble and fiery red sandstone left us in awe, and we couldn’t resist snapping a million pictures to capture its ethereal beauty.
But wait, there’s more! As we cruised through the buzzing streets, we passed some iconic landmarks that left us feeling like we were in a blockbuster movie. Rajpath, the ceremonial avenue, guided us to the incredible India Gate. Standing tall at a whopping 42 meters, it was like a majestic sentinel guarding the city. It honored the brave Indian soldiers who fearlessly fought in World War I, and the names etched on it served as a poignant reminder of their sacrifice. We couldn’t help but stand in awe of their bravery.
We also caught glimpses of the magnificent President House, sprawling over a mind-boggling 330 acres. Can you imagine the sheer opulence? It used to be the official residence of the Viceroy of India during the British era, and now it’s where the President resides. Talk about living the high life!
But the excitement didn’t stop there. We visited The Parliament House, a symbol of Indian democracy, loomed before us like a beacon of hope. We visited two awe-inspiring temples. The Lotus Temple, with its mesmerizing lotus-like architecture, transported us to a realm of serenity and inner peace. And the Akshardham Temple? Oh boy, it left us spellbound! The intricate carvings and the spiritual aura had us feeling like we were in the presence of something truly divine.
To top it off, we indulged in a morning culinary experience in Old Delhi, savoring the delectable street food from the city’s oldest food places. The flavors exploded in our mouths, and we couldn’t help but lick our fingers in delight. Delhi truly knows how to tickle your taste buds!

Its architecture echoes timeless Hindu spiritual messages, vibrant devotional traditions, and ancient art. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Akshardham is a symbol of devotion, learning, and harmony. It stands as a testament to the dedicated efforts of skilled artisans and volunteers who brought this magnificent structure to life. Leaving Delhi behind, we embark on a road trip to Agra, a city steeped in Mughal history. As we drive through the bustling streets, we catch glimpses of the local life and vibrant bazaars. Agra, once the capital of the grand Mughal Empire, flourished as a center of art, science, commerce, and culture during the reign of the Mughals. It was Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, who laid the foundation of Agra. However, it was Shah Jehan, the mastermind behind the incomparable Taj Mahal, who brought the city to its golden age in the 17th century.
Our first stop in Agra is the majestic Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most important fort in India. This architectural marvel, also known as Lal Qila or the Red Fort of Agra, is situated about 2.5 km northwest of the Taj Mahal. As we explore the chambers of this royal residence, we immerse ourselves in the grandeur of the Mughal dynasty. The fort, a walled palatial city, served as the residence of great Mughals such as Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb. As we traverse the old part of town, we witness the essence of life in Jaipur, where tradition and modernity coexist in perfect harmony.
Our exploration of Jaipur begins with a visit to the iconic Amber Fort, situated 11 km from the city. This splendid example of Rajput architecture overlooks the Maota Lake and offers breathtaking views. The fort’s interior is adorned with intricate ivory, mirror, and glass work, creating a mesmerizing display of craftsmanship. Marvel at the ornate frescoes, delicate murals, and beautifully carved pillars that narrate tales of valor and romance from the bygone era.
