Travelled in November 2022
Our trip was absolutely fantastic. We had an amazing honeymoon and are so appreciative of all of the work that went into it. It really was perfect. We also appreciated how coordinated every ground transfer and flight logistics were (e.g., Menzies Aviation). It made the trip that much more enjoyable.
Londolozi: This was a highlight for us. The camp felt intimate, welcoming, and was beautifully maintained. The game viewing was excellent (and the food was fantastic) but what really stood out was the people working at Londolozi. Annie was practically in tears hugging everyone goodbye when we had to move to Lion Sands. I would recommend this to every single one of our friends and family without thinking twice. This is a must return for us – Annie is already talking 40th birthday…
NEXT LODGE: Beautiful room and property but definitely felt bigger and less intimate than Londolozi. In isolation, Lion Sands was amazing – great game viewing, friendly staff, and the tree house was a once in a lifetime experience. The only thing that detracted from Lion Sands is that it came after Londolozi (which was a ten out of ten for us).
La Residence: Wow – this is a special place. Easily the biggest upside surprise for us on the honeymoon. Annie’s heart will forever be in the Elton John suite at La Residence in Franschhoek. The room was spectacular, the grounds were impeccable, and the staff was in a league of their own. We ended up emailing Liz Biden (owner of the Royal Portfolio) to tell her how outstanding everything was. Every single person that goes to the wine region must stay here – no exceptions. The Chef’s Table dinner was also a huge highlight – food was amazing and felt like a really special dinner. This also is on our recommendation list and a must return for us (part of the 40th?).
Chef’s Warehouse Maison: Likely our favorite meal of the trip – absolutely delicious.
The Silo: We had high expectations given La Residence, and it totally surpassed the bar. Same feedback as La Residence – beautiful hotel and exceptional staff (and great food). Great location in Cape Town.
Test Kitchen Fledglings & Grub and Vine: Highly recommend – great food and atmosphere.
Anantara Maia: Beautiful location on Mahe – our villa was perfect. We had an amazing stay, and it was a great way to unwind at the end of our trip.
Cape Fusion Tours: Pam is the best! She was amazing across all 3 days and so knowledgeable. We especially loved the wine tour and full day food tour. We would absolutely recommend her to anyone visiting Cape Town – it was a great way to see the city.
