I was born in Africa just a little over 50 years ago and here I find myself again, on my birthday, just fifty-something years later. After a long flight, it was wonderful to be met at the gate and escorted through customs to the baggage claim. Our connection and transport was incredibly well organized which made the journey that much better. We were met in an open Land Rover by Nottens Bush Camp and our game viewing began immediately as we left the airport. It was almost unbelievable because, by the time we reached Nottens Bush Camp, we had already seen 4 of the big five. And before the next sunrise we saw all 5; Leopard, Lion, Buffalo, Rhino, and Elephant in less than two days! In all the years I have spent on safari and experienced the African bush, I have never seen so much game and never been so close to it. It was incredible.
Our Lodge was most welcoming and comfortable with many personal and thoughtful touches, like champagne and a personal welcome note. Family run and managed, the food was exceptional, and the atmosphere could not have been better. One evening at Nottens Bushcamp, whilst enjoying one of the best steaks I had ever tasted, there was a scuffle at the dining-room door. As I looked around, three Hyenas were staring in the doorway, about to enter in the hope of snatching the rest of that delicious tenderloin sizzling on the BBQ. The waiters quickly jumped into action, chasing them from the dining room. It was quite a fiasco and definitely something so extraordinary it will stick in my memory forever. Next, we boarded the Rovos Rail. Like stepping back in time to a unique and luxurious experience, I would highly recommend it. Three days of breathtaking scenery, traditional gourmet four-course meals and superb service.
Thank you, Daniella and Sikeleli for the wonderful recommendations. Well organized and perfectly executed! We had one of the best times ever !!
